Nashville, TN (Monday, April 12, 2021) – One off season has passed since Dylan Fetcho wrote his name in the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway history books as a Pro Late Model Champion. He’ll be returning in 2021 looking to defend his title and become the first back-to-back Pro Late Model Champion since Wade Allen Buttrey during the 2004/2005 seasons. On top of defending his title, he’ll also be searching for wins on the quarter-mile track this season.
A native of Nashville, Fetcho found himself locked into an intense points battle last season with two-time NFS champion Cole Williams. Fetcho, who had not yet won in a Pro Late Model at America’s Favorite Short Track, battled with Williams all season in the Championship battle. In fact, Fetcho picked up his first career win by holding off Williams late in the race on October 3rd, keeping the Indiana driver from winning two-in-a-row and his third of the season. While the win was Fetcho’s only triumph in the Late Model, it was enough to keep him in the hunt for the title.
Coming into the final race of the season, during All American 400 weekend, Fetcho trailed Williams by just four points. However, a better starting position for Fetcho set him up for a spectacular day. Fetcho ran toward the front of the field all afternoon, bringing the US Tanks Ford home in third place, while Williams settled for seventh. The difference was enough to crown Fetcho as the 2020 champ.
On the quarter-mile, Fetcho also found the Winner Circle in his Legend car. Behind the wheel of the Kevin Huffine owned machine, Fetcho took home the win on the final night of the regular season in late October. The BH Holmes Construction Legends win for Fetcho came by holding off eventual Champion Bryson Shaffer.
As for Fetcho’s plans this season, he says he’ll be chasing a points title in both the Pro Late Model and the Legends division.
“We’ll run both [cars] for points and see how it goes,” said Fetcho. “Suppose at the beginning of the season we’ll just try to win races and the points will be there.”
The opening weekend for NFS begins on Thursday with open practice for stock car teams. Then, on Friday the Starkey US Legends Major at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will officially kick off the season beginning at 7:00pm; Grandstands open at 5:30pm. On Saturday, the 64th Season of Asphalt Racing Season Opener will begin at 5:30pm following the recognition of the 2020 Champions at 5:00pm. Grandstands open at 2:00pm with Bandolero racing at 3:00pm.
