Track Hosting Big Double-Header This Weekend

(Nashville, TN) Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is preparing for one of the best ARCA Menards Series East races this season. Interest is growing in anticipation of The Music City 150, which will bring together a stout field of racers in the third of eight races planned this year. The May 11th event will wrap up a big double-header that begins on Friday, May 10th.

What makes this ARCA East race so special are the many storylines leading up to the green flag. After two events, the top-3 drivers are eager to continue their domination. That trio of racers, each of whom is just 17 years old, brings with him the tools necessary for victory on the fast .625 mile high banked oval.

Giovanni “Gio” Ruggiero, current point leader, filled in last year for Isabella Robusto and made his ARCA debut in Nashville. Running a Venturini Motorsports Toyota, Ruggiero won the ARCA Menards Series East opener in Pensacola and he finished 2nd at Dover. He was in Kansas over the weekend for some practice time.

Connor Zilisch brings with him the most varied range of experience, having won both the 24 hours of Daytona and the 12 hours of Sebring this year in the LMP2 class. He also has a nice deal with Spire Motorsports to run a limited schedule for them in a Chevrolet.

Third in points, William Sawalich, who runs a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, has captured the pole at both Pensacola and Dover, finishing the FL race second to Ruggiero. Sawalich is counting down the days until his July birthday, when he’s been signed to run 4 Xfinity races for JR Motorsports. This past weekend he finished 3rd in a Pro Late Model race at Ace (NC) Speedway.

If home track is truly an advantage, then Hunter Wright is in a perfect position to contest for the win. At 23, he earned three consecutive Nashville Legends championships (’17, ’18, ’19), moved up to the Pro Late Models and earned the 2020 Rookie of the Year honors, and he is now running the ARCA East Series. In his only series race so far this year, he finished a solid 5th at Pensacola. He’ll be looking to bring the winner’s guitar and bragging rights back home to Lebanon, TN after his first run in this series before the hometown crowd.

Race fans are encouraged to be on hand for this great racing weekend. It all begins on Friday on the ¼-mile at 6:30 PM with the Paschall Htg & Air Limited Late Models, Pure Stocks, the new Crown Vic series, Pest Doctor Front Runners, US Air Force Legends, and CP Race Wear Bandoleros. On Saturday, May 11th, the ARCA Music City 150 headlines the action, which also includes the Pro Late Models and CRA Street Stocks on the .625-mile layout. Race time on Saturday is 5:00 PM.
